Fighting Sinusitis Naturally
Do you suffer from Sinusitis? Are you looking for a way to fight Sinusitis naturally? For many years, so was I! Let me give you a little background information about my sinus nightmare...
When I was 19, I had my wisdom teeth removed. I was lucky enough to have two wisdom teeth on both my right and left top sides so I had to have them removed at the hospital. After the surgery, I was told that the roots went far up into my sinus cavity. Of course, they would!
Years later, I started having severe headaches, which was diagnosed as Sinusitis. Many times my headaches were so severe that it interfered with my life. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I enjoy life, so this was really bothersome. Oftentimes, I was on antibiotics to help clear up my sinus infections. I had more head ex-rays then what is probably safe, which may explain a lot about who I am today! Eventually, basic antibiotics stopped working, or would only clear it for a little while. After undergoing two separate surgeries, I gave-up on Western medicine to fix this particular issue and I started to explore alternative medicine.
UPDATE: July 23, 2009, since using these various techniques, I have not had a sinus infection in a year and a half. These techniques really work. Please contact me, if you require any further non-medical advice. Thanks.
There are many natural cures for this problem, and I would like to share my favourites with you. However, please understand this is from personal experience, and anything you try should be run past you doctor, or naturapath.
- Chiropractic care, find a good practitioner and he/she will help immensely with the accompanying aches and pains.
- At the first sign of trouble, make Spicy Tomato Tea (recipe to follow).
- Drink a minimum of 6 cups of water, more if you can swallow it.
- Gardener's Dream Cream (101-002) - Massage this wonder cream onto your cheeks, nose, and temples. The rosemary, cinnamon leaf, and eucalyptus help to clear blocked sinuses and relieve pain and inflammation. Boy does this really work! (29.99)
- SpaFinder Soothing Facial Massager (199-511) - This massager helps soothe painful sinus areas naturally, I use it for two minutes each side of my face cold, then use it for two minutes on each side of my face warm, then repeat with cold and warm three times each. ($14.99)
- Botanicals Soothing Eye Pads (257-108) - Leaf-shaped design rests comfortably on eyes. Can be used warm or cold. ($8.99)
Tomato Tea
- 2 cups of Tomato juice, V-8, or Clamato juice
- 2 cloves of garlic crushed and left to sit for 10-15 minutes to allow allicin to develop
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 heaping teaspoon extra hot horseradish sauce
- As much Hot Sauce as you can handle, preferably 1 tbsp or more (as much as you can handle, the fumes help open up blocked sinuses)
Mix all together. Heat in microwave or on stove top, and drink while still very warm. Re-heat as needed. You can drink as much of this as you need. There are very few potential side-effects (other than that people may not want to be around your garlic breath). Be sure to continue drinking this for a couple of days after you feel better, this helps to prevent a reoccurance of symptoms.
This concoction works in many ways. Firstly it opens up your airways with the fumes from the hot sauce. Secondly, the vegetable juice and the lemon juice have high concentrations of Vitamin C which is beneficial to the body so it can fight off the infections. Thirdly, garlic is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which may also help your body repair itself.
